The Partnership Myth: Why Alignment Beats Intensity
Two people rowing hard in different directions just make circles.
We romanticize intensity in partnership — the big efforts, the grand gestures, the all-in energy.
But intensity without alignment is just two people exhausting each other beautifully. You're rowing hard, sweating, committed — and going nowhere, because you never agreed which shore.
Alignment is unglamorous
Alignment is the boring conversation nobody posts about: Where are we actually going? What does 'enough' look like? What are we building toward — and are we still building toward the same thing?
It's the conversation that prevents the fight nobody remembers the cause of.
Direction first, velocity second
Before you argue about how fast to go, confirm you're pointed the same way. Most partnership conflict isn't disagreement — it's misalignment dressed up as a fight about dishes or deadlines.
Try this: Name the horizon you think you share, out loud, this week. Ask your partner what they see. Adjust until the picture matches — then argue about the path with something to aim at.
Alignment makes intensity mean something. Without it, you're just tired.
